Contact Yoga & Hotsprings in Big Sur!

May 30-June 2nd

Come join Anjuli and Alok on a truly epic 4-day trip into the Big Sur wilderness at the peak of spring beauty. We will share the practices of Contact Dance, Partner Yoga, and Thai Massage in an idyllic setting along the Big Sur river under the redwoods.

Anjuli and Alok have been teaching the unique practice of Contact Yoga in the SF Bay Area for over two years. Grounded in traditional yoga postures and principles, Contact Yoga explores that mysterious and dynamic edge where two people connect – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Using the points of contact, Contact Yoga offers an inter-personal application of yogic philosophy that breaks down the barriers of separation while building an awareness and foundation for healthy relating.

We regularly encourage working with different partners, so bring friends or come meet new ones. Couples will find new ways of communicating trust and loving-kindness, and together we can all find ways to be more harmonious and playful.

Our first day we will meet in Big Sur and begin the uphill hike to Barlow Flats where we will stay for 3 nights. The second day we will take a day hike to Sykes Hot Springs and enjoy the natural hot mineral baths along the river. Day 3 will be filled with relaxing and swimming in the Big Sur river, Contact Yoga, and communing with nature. Day 4 will be a leisure morning in camp and hike out. The hiking is intermediate with a challenging first day of 7 miles. The day hike will be 6 miles out and back.

Thai Massage Series

February Series at Athletic Playground, Wed 7-9 PM

This 4-week series with Anjuli and Alok will provide a foundation for a basic full-body Thai Massage routine. This course will be helpful whether you are an experienced bodyworker or are just beginning. You will learn valuable tools that you can use for a personal practice or just to share with a friend. Thai massage is a very versatile type of massage that can be done anywhere without needing a table or sheets.
The spirit of Thai Massage is ‘Metta’ or loving kindness. It is in this spirit that the practitioner applies acupressure to the sen (energy) lines in the body. Basic centering techniques will be introduced at the start of each class. Mindfulness and proper alignment are a core part of the practice.
Thai Massage addresses and combines techniques usually found isolated in the western physiotherapies including Trigger Point Treatments, Myofascial Techniques, Neuro Muscular therapy, and Manual Therapy among others.
In this series, we will break down a full-body session into 4 segments: Supine, Sidelying, Prone, and Seated. We recommend that you take good notes during class and find a study partner to work with in between classes so that you can retain as much information as possible!

Full Series: $190 ($160 for members). Drop In: $60 ($50 for members)$5 off by 2/1
